Derry publishing books in both 2008 and 2009 Print E-mail

2008 and 2009 are exciting years for Margaret Derry as two books in the Life and Living Series are released. In January, 2008 Killarney Memoir: Summers over a Century was published. Look elsewhere on this web page for this book. A second book, Shadow within a Shadow is scheduled for completion in 2010.

Margaret Derry has written another book on animal breeding. By focusing on the poultry industry, this monograph will show how certain cultural patterns became embedded in attempts to improve domestic animals over the last two hundred years: namely, the relationship of human use of animals to breeding efforts, how the gendered labour of people affected perceptions about animal improvement, the role fancy and utility played in the breeding of better animals, and how the gendering of the export/domestic arms of the market affected breeding.
